About Me

Matthew Hopcraft

I trained as a dentist, and worked in the Army, and public and private dental practices after I graduated. I spent 12 years as an academic at the University of Melbourne, and completed a Doctor of Philosophy degree in dental public health. I was the President of the Australian Dental Association (Victorian Branch) in 2010-11, and continue to work closely in the profession to promote good oral health. 

 

Masterchef

Season 7

I was a contestant in Season 7 of MasterChef Australia, where I finished 6th. I was fortunate to cook for some of the best chefs in the world, including Heston Blumenthal, Marco Pierre White, Massimo Bottura, Rick Stein, Shannon Bennett, Janice Wong, Darren Purchese, and of course George Calombaris, Gary Mehigan and Matt Preston, whose mentoring and support was invaluable.

Family

I am married to Erika, and we have two children, Emily and Lachlan. My inspiration for cooking comes from my family, and always striving to put good food on the table for them at every opportunity.
